Two new styles sourced from Kanpur
From first call to production-ready styles in six weeks, with a SEDEX-compliant partner. Minimum order 150 pieces per style, counter-samples approved before any commitment.
Our deepest category. Finished leather, goods, garments, gloves and footwear — sourced from audited factories across Kanpur, Chennai, Ambur, Kolkata and Agra, with the tannery trail traced and the capacity confirmed before a single name reaches you.
India is one of the largest leather producers in the world, and that is exactly what makes it hard to buy from. A search returns hundreds of factories, most of them indistinguishable on paper, several of them trading companies presenting somebody else’s production as their own. The gap between a good Indian leather supplier and a bad one is larger than the gap between countries.
The leather desk exists to close that gap. We are in regular, ongoing contact with a core group of exporters — several of them houses with more than thirty years in the trade — sitting inside a wider researched network of over two hundred manufacturers. We know what each one actually makes, what they only claim to make, which tannery their leather comes from, and whether their audit is current or three years stale.
You get that as a shortlist, on paper, before anyone is introduced.
Leather end to end — from the finished hide to the packed article.
Bags, backpacks, wallets, portfolios, travel and small leather goods. Buyer patterns or in-house development.
Leather jackets and apparel in sheep, goat and lamb nappa. Sizing sets and fit samples before bulk.
Industrial, welding, driver and rigger gloves. EN 388 tested constructions where the buyer requires certification.
Industrial and protective footwear, uppers and components, built to EN ISO 20345 where specified.
Cow, buffalo, goat and sheep in a range of finishes, sourced with the tannery named and its rating checked.
Belts, straps, card holders and small leather goods — the categories where low MOQs matter most.
Leather home accessories, desk and lifestyle articles for retail and private-label programmes.
If it is leather and it is made in India, tell us the article. If the network cannot serve it well, we will say so.
The same article quoted out of the wrong cluster costs more and ships later. Cluster fit is part of the shortlist.
Heavy leather country. Finished leather, saddlery and harness, industrial and safety gloves, shoe uppers. The cluster to be in for buffalo and cow leather at scale.
India’s largest leather export belt. Footwear, uppers, finished leather and garments, with the deepest concentration of audited, export-experienced units.
Bags, wallets, belts and small leather goods. Strong on hand-finishing and on the lower minimums that first orders and test programmes need.
Footwear at volume, with a dense component ecosystem around it. Fast on fashion styles and repeat programmes.
Everything except the name. This is the format, filled with an illustrative partner — real profiles arrive against your brief.
Illustrative format, not a live listing. Every field on a real profile carries the date it was checked, and nothing we cannot verify goes on the sheet at all. See five real partner profiles →
Buyer names withheld, partner names released only after a fit is established. The numbers are not.
What European, UK and US buyers ask for — and what we confirm before the introduction.
Duty on Indian leather goods entering the United Kingdom has been 0% since July 2026 under the India–UK trade agreement. For a UK buyer currently sourcing the same article from an origin that still carries duty, that is a landed-cost change large enough to justify re-running the whole sourcing decision.
We quote landed cost, not ex-works — product, packing, freight assumptions, duty line and the HS code it rests on — so the number you compare against your incumbent is the number you will actually pay. Tariff positions move; we confirm the line for your specific code at the time of quoting rather than leaning on a headline.
Article, leather, volume per style, destination market, compliance bar, target landed cost. Fifteen minutes on a call, or by email.
Three to five anonymised partner profiles with capability, capacity, audits and leather trail checked and dated. You choose who progresses.
Counter-samples against your specification, landed-cost quotes against your references, and the introduction once both sides fit.
The leather desk is two named people, reachable directly. No shared inbox, no rotating account manager.
Runs the sourcing desk and the exporter relationships behind it — the partner conversations, the vetting calls and the introductions. He is the one on the other end of the fifteen minute call.
Builds the research engine underneath the desk — the systems that find buyers, check what a factory claims, and keep every profile traceable back to the source it came from.
The questions we get on almost every first call with a leather buyer.
We start from your specification, not from a list. Product, construction, leather type and finish, target volume per style, delivery market, and the compliance bar you have to clear.
From there we draw candidates out of the network and check what they claim: audit status such as SEDEX, SMETA or BSCI, the tannery their leather comes from and whether it is LWG rated, real production capacity for your article, minimum order quantities, and which markets they already ship to. Only what survives that reaches you.
Yes, where the buyer requires it. The Leather Working Group audits tanneries on environmental performance — water, energy, chemical management and traceability — and a rating is normally a hard requirement for European and UK brands.
We trace the leather back to the tannery rather than accepting a supplier’s word, because the certificate that matters is the tannery’s, not the manufacturer’s.
With select partners, minimum order quantities start from 100 pieces per style. That is unusually low for the category and it is not the norm across the whole network — larger houses run higher minimums because their lines are set up for volume.
Tell us the volume you can actually commit to and we will only shortlist factories that will take it seriously.
With select partners, counter-samples turn in as little as 7 days from an approved specification. Complex constructions, custom hardware, new leather development or bespoke finishes take longer, and we will tell you which of those applies before you commit to a timeline.
Samples always come before commitment. Nobody should place a first order on a photograph.
Zero. Duty on Indian leather goods entering the UK has been 0% since July 2026 under the India–UK trade agreement, which is a material change to landed cost against competing origins.
We build the landed-cost maths into the quote rather than quoting an ex-works price and leaving you to work out what it actually costs on your shelf. Tariff positions change — we confirm the line applicable to your specific HS code at the time of quoting.
Kanpur and Unnao in Uttar Pradesh for finished leather, saddlery, harness and industrial gloves. Tamil Nadu — Chennai, Ambur, Ranipet and Vaniyambadi — for footwear, uppers and finished leather, the country’s largest leather export belt. Kolkata for bags, small leather goods and accessories. Agra for footwear.
Cluster matters more than most buyers expect: the same article quoted out of the wrong cluster costs more and ships later, because the supply chain around it is not built for it.
We verify audit and certification status as part of the shortlist, and we will tell you plainly what a partner holds and what they do not. Where a buyer requires third-party pre-shipment inspection or a fresh social audit, that can be arranged as part of the engagement.
We do not issue certificates ourselves and we will never present an expired or unverifiable one as current.
Yes. Most of the network works to buyer specification — your patterns, your leather selection, your hardware, your labelling and packaging.
Where you want development support instead, several partners have in-house design and sampling teams and can work from a reference, a moodboard or a competitor article.
You see everything except the name. Each shortlisted partner comes as a profile: cluster, years in operation, product lines, monthly capacity, minimum order quantity, audit and certification status, export markets served and sample lead time.
Identity is released once a fit is established and the partner consents. That protects their existing client relationships — and it is the same discretion you would want applied to yours.
Tell us what you are buying and at what volume. If the leather network cannot serve it well, we will tell you on the call rather than after the sample.
